 WARNING SPOILERS

The Boy Who Lived has been a part of my life now for 14 years and knowing the big finale was just around the corner was enough to have me sat in my bedroom for hours eating chocolate in a state of mourning. Although I had big hopes for this movie all of my expectations were completely blown out of the water by the sheer brilliance of the final chapter of the Harry Potter series.

The film is fast paced from the outset and you often find yourself struggling to breathe with the sheer amount of action packed into just two hours. We pick up where we left off, with Hermione, Ron and Harry searching for the remaining horocruxes ending up with them returning to Hogwarts to be confronted by a completely different school to the one they remember as it is controlled by Severus Snape and some fellow Death Eaters. After making Voldemort mortal, Harry finally gets to fulfill the prophecy made by Sybil Trelawney before he was born and rid the world of Voldemort for good.

Those who have read the books will understand why people have described the final battle as a bloodbath – not least of all Snape’s death, which is brutal at the hands of Voldemort and his reptilian familiar, Nagini. Alan Rickman without a doubt steals the show during the telling of The Prince’s Tale which reduced many of the cast, crew and audience members to tears – its not hard to see why Daniel Radcliffe described this as the performance of Rickman’s career. The much anticipated kiss between Hermione and Ron is a bit blink and you’ll miss it, but is sweet and you can’t help but fall in love with the pair as a couple. Emma, Daniel and Rupert are all outstanding, which makes it easy to see why they were chosen all those years ago by Christopher Columbus.

The final movie is fast paced, exciting and the 3D effects do not hinder it but instead add to the drama and excitement.
