Desperate Housewives – Series 7 (DVD Review)

review by: Laura Kate Jones
Desperate Housewives has always been one of the funniest, most dramatic series on TV and, even after so many years, series 7 is as fast paced as its predecessors.
It sees the arrival of a new neighbour, Rennee Perry, played by Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams, who is an old college friend of Lynette Scavo. The new member of Wisteria Lane stirs up trouble almost immediately when light is shed on her secretive past with Lynette’s husband Tom. After Tom is promoted at work his relationship with his wife becomes strained causing tension in the Scavo household.
Meanwhile Bree Van de Kamp comes clean with fellow housewife Gabrielle Solis about her son’s involvement in Carlos’s mother’s death by a hit and run driver years previously, causing their relationship to become strained. She also begins a relationship with young contractor Keith Watson after her divorce from Orson.
After facing some financial difficulties Susan and Mike Delfino move away from the Lane and into a small apartment complex, with Susan taking on a new risqué job in order to keep the family afloat. Their house is then rented out to none other than Paul Young who moves in with his new wife Beth. After announcing that he plans to turn it into a halfway house for ex-prisoners, a riot ensues and Paul is shot and Susan is trampled by the crowd. Susan loses a kidney as a result and has to undergo dialysis while she waits for a donor to be found.
Gabrielle and husband Carlos discover that Juanita is not their real daughter and decide to form a bond with their real daughter Grace and her parents. However Gabrielle’s attachment to her biological daughter is detrimental to the relationship with Juanita. After Grace’s family are forced to flee the country, Carlos encourages Gabrielle to attend counseling where she admits that she was molested as a child.
The acting is as brilliant as ever and as an avid fan of the show since it began I will be sad to see it end after eight action packed seasons. |
