How I Met Your Mother Season 6 (DVD Review)

review by: Jenny Kerwood
How I Met Your Mother had the unenviable task of being the latest TV sitcom based on friends living in New York. Whilst it doesn’t live up to the iconic statue of Friends, in the most part this enjoyable series matches up to its predecessors.
And the fact that I sitting here reviewing it’s sixth season, with the seventh having already hit US TV screens and an eight well-documented season to follow, is testament to how well the show has done.
Season Six still doesn’t answer the big question over who the mother of Ted’s (Josh Radnor) kids are but does answer one important question, we find out where Ted meets the future Mrs Mosby and the answer serves up an surprising cliffhanger to tease the viewers into season seven.
Whilst he may not have yet met his future wife, Ted embarks on a complicated relationship with Zoey (Jennifer Morrison) whom he initially clashes with over his plans to destroy a famous New York building. Meanwhile Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) remains his obnoxious yet often hilarious self but does show his softer side during the season when he finally meets his real dad and embarks on a new relationship.
There are often points during the season where How I Met Your Mother doesn’t quite get the balance between silly humour and cringeworthy moments quite right, with the main characters all verging on being annoying at one point or another. But it still remains hard not to like Barney, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Marshall (Jason Segel) and co.
The success of the show also means we get to enjoy some pretty good cameos including Nicole Scherzinger, Katy Perry and Hurley from lost.
This was the first ever series I have watched of the popular American show and there is enough laughs across the 24 episodes of season six to make me want to go back and watch more from the newest generation of friends to find the funny side of living in New York City.
DVD Extra Features

The season six DVD also contains an impressive array of extras, including deleted scenes and a look back at what we know about the mother of Ted’s children. How I Met Your Mother even manages to master the gag-reel with some hilarious outtakes from the cast. |
