Spy Kids 4 - All The Time In The World (DVD Review)

review by: Laura Kate Jones
All The Time in the World is the fourth installment in the Spy Kids series of films from writer and director Robert Rodriguez, it stars Jessica Alba, former Spy Kids Darly Sabara and Alexa Vega and features Ricky Gervais as a talking robotic dog. For younger audiences it can be a captivating story of how two young children are inducted into the OSS as a new generation of ‘Spy Kids’, though adults might struggle with the plot as a whole.
Marissa Cortez, played by Alba, retires from her work as a spy after marrying her new husband Wilbur Wilson and giving birth to their daughter Maria. Wilson’s two children Rebecca and Cecil are not thrilled with their new step-mother, with Rebecca in particular making life as difficult as possible for her. When new villains Tick-Tock and ‘the Timekeeper’ join forces and freeze time around the world, it is up to the entire family to save the earth including Marissa’s niece and nephew, the original Spy Kids Juni and Carmen Cortez.
Ricky Gervais as the talking robotic dog Argonaut is without a doubt the best reason to watch this film as he provides some of the best lines and much needed comic relief in an otherwise bland and tired story. There was a bit of a plot twist which some might see coming (though I have to admit I didn’t).
Spy Kids 4D is entertaining for younger children especially with the Auroma-Scope Scratch and Sniff card which you are prompted to use when numbers appear on the screen through the movie. Adults however may find it a struggle to sit through.
