I Don’t Know How She Does It (DVD Review)

review by: Laura Kate Jones
Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan star in this new DVD release about a woman and her struggle to juggle her family life and her career.
Kate Reddy (played by Parker) is a hardworking high-flying career woman intent on succeeding in a predominantly male environment while trying to make time for her two children, Emily and Ben, and husband Richard (Greg Kinnear). When she is given the opportunity of a lifetime in New York working on a lucrative new project, which will see her jetting across the country on a regular basis with Jack Abelhammer (Pierce Brosnan), she is forced to sacrifice time spent with her family for time spent behind an office door. Kate finds that her marriage gradually being put in jeopardy as she begins to spend less time with her doting husband and two children and more time with her flirtatious new business partner.
While I was looking forward to this movie as it seemed quite similar to others which have remained firm favourites of mine, I can’t help but feel the main theme of a woman trying to work her way up in a male-orientated career and going back and forth between mother and career-woman is an old and tired one.
There are moments that will make you want to ‘Awww’ out loud, but the majority of the time you may find yourself watching the clock wondering how much longer is left as the pace seems quite slow at times.
Unfortunately not even Parker or Brosnan help redeem this ‘limp’ comedy. |
