The Two Ronnies: Series Three (DVD)

review by: Troy Elliott
Originally televised between 1973 and 1974, The Two Ronnies series three DVD release of their sketch-based show, will be a must have for fans this coming spring. While for many this will be a nostalgic return to the world of 70’s comedy, featuring all the wonderful gags and usual send-ups this comedic duo are renowned for, one cant help but notice just how far British comedy has moved on since.
However, regardless of the post-Little Britain, Catherine Tate, Russell brand-esque comedy climate will now live in, there are some cherished moments to be had, and are testament to just how talented Corbett and barker really were. Who can forget Ronnie Corbett’s long-winded monologues and barker’s chameleon switch between east end Londoner and well-to-do English gentleman? Or the quick-fire newsreader sketch that always introduced every episode and the “goodnight from him” sign-off?
