Star Trek goes back to the future to the younger days of Kirk, Spock and co.

Star Trek the American TV series was first broadcast in 1966. Over forty years later and Star Trek (2009) the movie is a summer blockbuster.

Now pretty much a reasonable portion of the planet knows off or has heard of Star Trek. I am in the group who has seen some of the early TV episodes but that’s it. I suppose I am between the knows a lot and knows nothing about the movie category. Given my perspective I must say enjoyed the film.

The best thing about Star Trek for me was always the weird and wonderful yet somewhat comic book like plausible story lines. The latest Star Trek movie delivers much of the same but intricately woven with the early days of Kirk and Spoc. A good plot and with a few bob to spend these days on production the movie looks cool as well.

The movie shows how the crew for the Starship Enterprise started off; Kirk as a little to over the top maverick and a prodigious young Mr Spock. Watching the young crew in their early days was good fun. The idea to take the action back was a good call. There’s also an integral part of the story which involves Spock and adds to the intriguing past/future aspect of the film.

Director J.J. Adams (Mission Impossible, Lost) said he wanted to try to make a movie for the fans and new people coming to Star Trek. For my money Adams has done a pretty good job in what is an entertaining movie.

Although trekkies will probably lap up the extras they are for the most part uninspiring typical behind the scenes and the making off footage.
