Mad Monster Party (DVD Review)
3/5
review by: Sav D’Souza

Classic 1967 remastered animated flick. One for the kids.

Baron Von Frankenstein has decided to retire and so organises a party at his castle for all his creations. So the movie starts off promising as the Baron sends out invites to familiar characters such as The Mummy, Count Dracula, The Werewolf, Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde, The Invisible Man along with his last living relative Felix Flankin.

The animation is pretty neat but sadly at 55 mins it feels a little long as do many of scenes. The action is a little simplistic at times and although kids should enjoy it a lot there’s really not enough to cut it for adults. Aside from maybe one song most of the others that punctuate the movie are also quite basic and drag a little.

The stop motion animation and the puppets are very clever and visually the film is good and nice to look at. The voiceover from Boris Karloff as the Baron is pretty cool and some of the dialogue is quite funny.

It’s a shame that it’s kind of let down with some scenes for instance after the party various monsters seem to be snoring loudly so you get scene after scene with virtually a similar theme.

This movie will probably appeal to adults who saw the original and enjoy reminiscing or to watch it with their kids.
