The Disappearance of Alice Creed (Cinema Review)

review by: Sav D’Souza
Terrible kidnap plot saga which at 98 minutes long makes teeth extraction slightly more bearable.
In a nutshell a couple of ex-con chancers kidnap the daughter of a rich dude and demand a ransom with a few twists thrown in for good measure.
There have been a few cinematic ransom job plots over the years but this has to be one of the most uninspiring. It’s a struggle to say anything good about this movie which just feels very amateurish. It just felt such a waste of time having to sit through it. The overriding sense was a lack of credibility in the plot and the characters. There’s a love angle dynamic that is so unconvincing that the only emotion it could invoke is laughter. All stem from a script that is so poor that you wonder how it was actually made into a film.
This movie has been shown at the Toronto and London film festivals and it’s hard to imagine what the schedulers were thinking about when including it. It seems to lack imagination, depth, purpose or film making skill in any way.
Give this an almighty swerve and maybe just sit quietly for an hour and half as it would be more interesting. |
