True Blood Season 2 (DVD Review)
2/5
review by: Sav D’Souza

Disappointing HBO series.

HBO have set the bar pretty high with the likes of The Sopranos and The Wire in recent years and all though much hyped the True Blood series fails to impress.

The second series of True Blood is much in the same vein as the first so if you loved the first (which I didn’t) you will probably love the second series.

It’s a shame really because I have a lot of time for True Blood’s writer Alan Ball. Ball was responsible for the superb Oscar winning American Beauty and for the most part the excellent Six Feet Under. I am also not adverse to vampire related films and thoroughly enjoyed the Twilight films to date.

The second series of True Blood much in the vein of the first series has characters and situations that are not compelling enough. The series obviously aspires to a level of quirkiness between the vampires and normal human beings interacting but as a result it lacks the more subtle secretive and mysterious aspect that vampires are typically portrayed.

Just as in the first series I really could not get into any of the characters who seemed very fickle and resolved issues or concerns they had all too easily.
