Predictable and uninspiring revenge mobster flick starring Jean Reno.

The movies opens with a sentimental Kodak moment which are dotted throughout the movie till the credits roll.

Retired big mafia boss Charly Mattei (Jan Reno) is gunned down with yes 22 bullets and thinks about maybe just having a nice of tea but then thinks again...cue revenge and lots of noble 'my family' posturing from the laid back Frenchman. Hot on the trail is a female cop Marie Goldman (Marina Fois) whose husband has been killed by the mafiasos that Reno was part off. She's having a hard time coming to terms with his death, she drinks and has to deal with a hard ass boss who just wants the case easily dispensed with. Sound familiar?

In turns of twists this movies has less quelle surprise than a bottle of Evian. Everything about this movie reeks of your typical Hollywood action movie but in French which is a real shame because when the French put their minds to it they can make some superb, atmospheric, gripping and suspense fuelled action movies of which A Prophet was the recent most finest example.

On the plus side if there is one is that if you don't mind a lobotomy of sorts and a losing of a couple of hours in a completely untaxing and unmemorable cinematic experience than the movie will probably suffice. Aside from some atrocious 'clever camera work', what is it with quick flashy editing where you really don't quite see what is happening like a bad experiment between the styles of NYPD Blue and Bourne, the movie to its credit does brain hump you enough to realise that two hours have actually passed so is if nothing well paced and held together. Saying that it is also awfully cliché ridden in terms of plot and characterisation and oozes sentimentality.

Reno and Fois are both competent enough in movie but are hardly stretched to any great extent.
