Dead Space; Aftermath (DVD Review)

review by: Troy Elliott
Featuring plenty of gore and sci-fi action, Anchor bay's release of Dead Space: Aftermath takes the franchise to a whole new level with complex plots and cutting-edge CGI technology.
The year is 2059 and four survivors from the USG O'Bannon responder ship are interrogated after the destruction of an Alien artifact cause a catastrophe on Aegis VII. It seems the artifact known as the Marker turns people in to monsters and the survivor’s accounts under Psychological interrogation reveal a gruesome tale of violent zombie attacks and technological secrets.
Different perspectives are visualised in varying animation techniques which although not unique, do add tension and the non-linear narrative does well to keep the viewer gripped but with the plot jumping around so much its not a film you want to turn away from for a few minutes, if you do, the skip-back option on your DVD player will become a regular selection.
Expanding on the mythology of the original XBox/Playstation game Aftermath is as an obvious counterpart to the recent Dead Space 2 game release and will no doubt have eager gamers switching to there DVD and Blu-ray players in between shoot-em-up sessions with their friends. However for this reviewer Call of duty and Halo seem a much superior game and regardless of its earlier animation, Akira really shows its prestige when compared to something like Aftermath.
Unfortunately the DVD release doesn’t feature any extras apart from the expected game trailer of Dead Space 2. |
