WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 (PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP, Wii, DS)
3.5/5
review by: Gaz Deaves

WWE games have been getting yearly updates for nearly a decade, and this latest addition to the series sticks closely to the mould of its predecessors. The action in the main game sees you controlling the career of a Superstar wrestler as you take on the best in the WWE in a series of matches to decide the championship. Visually, Smackdown vs. Raw delivers exactly what you'd expect, with every flexing muscle and grimacing face rendered in shiny high definition.

The ringside gameplay is deceptively complex, with elaborate systems covering all the bases you'd expect from a wrestling game, including grappling, throws and the obligatory posing. It's an extremely comprehensive set of controls, but will take a lot of getting used to for anyone who's new to the series. It's not a fatal flaw by any means, although casual gamers would be advised to leave this one for those who've got the time to master its subtleties.
