Sonic Riders – Zero Gravity (Wii & PS2)
3/5
review by: Ric Reeves

Sonic Riders - Zero Gravity is the latest spin off from the blue hedgehogs’ usual platform adventures and he’s back hover-board racing with all the gang in tow. The storyline mode’s plot is set in the near future and revolves around the battle to solve the riddle of a mysterious meteorite that has fallen to earth and why it has caused all of the robots to rampage. This storyline holds the attention well but is quite short and offers little in the way of re-playability. The obligatory grand prix modes and time trials offer a little more gaming time as does the multiplayer mode.

Graphically the game is very good, giving you a real sense of acceleration and speed, helped along by the thumping soundtrack. Unfortunately, you don’t get to reach high speeds very often due to the poor control schemes on offer. The Wii-mote can be used in two ways but sadly a combination of oversensitivity and sluggish responses often leaves you ricocheting from wall to wall. Special moves and equipment can be earned or purchased but whilst impressive when they work, often they merely propel you into the wall at higher speeds than ever before!

Overall this is a fairly average racer let down by a less than average control scheme.
