Bulletstorm (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
EA

review by: Ryan Cope
After being betrayed by his commanding officer, black ops soldier-turned-rogue pirate Grayson Hunt sets off on a drunken fuelled mad conquest to get revenge on the evil General Sarrano. Joined by his best cyborg buddy Ishi Sato and tough as a man’s nuts marine Trishka, Grayson finds himself stranded on a resort world overrun by mutants, gangs, man eating plants and skyscraper sized Godzilla type monsters.
“You dick licking c**k sucker!” is a phrase player’s will hear constantly amongst plenty of other hilarious and imaginative insults whilst playing Bulletstorm. The story is a foul-mouthed rollercoaster ride of blood, gore and pure comedy – not for the young or those who dislike brutal combat, dark humour and lots of ‘potty mouth’.
Combat in Bulletstorm is fast paced, addictive, bloody and just plain fun. Players earn skill points every time they kill an enemy but gain higher points for more destructive and creative deaths, meaning that using your imagination and the environment reaps bigger rewards. Skill points can be spent on new weapons, ammo and upgrades, allowing for even more skill kill options. Whether you’re impaling someone on a cactus, sending them into the sky on a firework, getting them eaten by a giant plant or just plain blowing their junk off, Bulletstorm offers players a huge variety of ways to dispose of enemies.
For such a great game it’s a shame there’s no competitive online multiplayer since there is plenty of potential for an engaging and addictive player VS player mode. However, there is the co-operative round surviving Anarchy mode that sees up to four players using teamwork to earn a set amount of skill points.
If you’re bored of typical military shooters with World War 3 storylines, then Bulletstorm is for you. In short, it is hysterical gut spewing mature entertainment. |
