EA Sports have been at the forefront of just about every sporting game for the past two decades, blowing competitors out of its path with ease. So you’d perhaps forgive them if they were to become complacent and let their guard down one year, but this isn’t that time. Fight Night Champion has improved vastly to prove that EA Sports still have that passion for pushing boundaries and remaining the undisputed champ of Boxing titles.

Gone are the days of awkward punch controls and slow motion haymaker swings. ‘Full Spectrum Punch Control’ has revamped Fight Night so you’re free to unleash a barrage of body shots within seconds, then deliver a knockout blow just by flicking your thumb. No game in the world could keep up with Pacquiao’s fists but this certainly comes close.

The boxers are frighteningly life-like as the developers have gone to great lengths to give each Boxer their unique personalities. With traits and styles from Ali’s stinging jab to Iron Mike’s bulldozer approach, the match-ups are more realistic than any previous Fight Night release. And the improved detail to facial damage really brings it home with a bit of added humanity.

But what really puts this game into a higher weight category is the much anticipated ‘Champion Mode’. The gamer can step into the boots of fictional fighter Andre Bishop and follow his highs and lows of a career in the ring. It brings a whole new cinematic experience to your gaming as each match carries a weight of emotion and purpose, as opposed to the dull and lifeless career mode of Fight Night Round 4.

So if, like me, you’re frustrated because the Klitschko’s keep ducking David Haye, pick up a copy of Fight Night Champion and do what Frank Warren just can’t seem to do – make it happen! However, one fight we’ll all have to remain patient for is Pacquiao vs Mayweather because, unfortunately, Floyd Jr. chose not to be in this game.
