Perfect for a lazy or rainy day the second album from siblings Angus and Julia Stone is a collection of elegant, simple yet softly reassuring songs.

It’s definitely an album of the warm fuzzy feeling. Vocally both the Stones are competent, lyrically it’s well written but what really makes the songs are the superb musical arrangements and compositions which complement and frame the vocal.

Julia’s sweet sounding soft tones evoke Bjork while Angus’ voice has a husky feminine like quality.

Both also add a real dimension when they play a supporting role as backing singer for one another letting the other take the lead. Julia adds a lush layer to ‘Hold On’ and ‘For You’ and Angus returns the favour on ‘Santa Monica Dream’.

‘Yellow Brick Road’ is a great folksy/rock track with a superb array of guitar work and a good example of the Stones subtle yet captivating sound.

The country sounding ‘On the Road’ is another sumptuous, elegant example of the duo working in harmonious tandem with Angus taking the lead.

A lot to like about ‘Big Jet Plane’ my personal favourite on the album.

The slow paced build up of most of the tracks give them a cinematic feel which unsurprising have already being used for a number of TV and movie soundtracks and ensure a satisfying pay off at the end with songs that seem to sound richer the more you listen to them.

Lush and sweet, mellow and soothing, a collection of songs that nicely balance lament and hope resulting in a charming feel good album.
