Luke Ritchie - Water on Edge (Album Review)
Angel Falls
3.5/5
review by: Mary Isokariari

Water on Edge’, the debut album by Luke Ritchie is the soundtrack of unspoken love and loss.  A fusion of blues, folk with rich melodies the album is a testament to his song-writing skills and vocal talent.

Each song offers something different whether it’s acoustic style, guest vocalist by Jazz singer Nia Lynn or charismatic lyrics such as ‘But the solitude of sleeplessness can be beautiful, never silent, never still beneath the city lights’.

The album opens with ‘The Lighthouse’, a charismatic track against the stunning backdrop of the piano and harmonica played by classical composer Nico Muhly.
Whilst tracks such as; ‘Shanty’, and ‘Cover it up’ makes you want to tap your feet and sing along.

Words’, the heartfelt ballad is a stand out track which starts off with only Luke Ritchie’s vocals and the piano before the drums come into play. The poignant lyrics; ‘But in her arms I woke. She conjured up the world with the words that she spoke’, are sung with so much conviction that you can’t help pressing the rewind button.

Right Then and There’, is a much darker song with haunting harmonies which gives the album greater depth.

Luke Ritchie will be supporting Sophie Barker of Zero 7 and Groove Armada in October and will also be supporting Rumer on tour in November.

‘The Water’s Edge’ will be released on Monday 21st November 2011.
